Methodology & sources

How Origins is built.

Origins combines established research traditions with a purpose-built product structure for adaptive personal reflection. Research guides the territory; your own words supply the evidence.

Research-informed, not independently clinically or psychometrically validated. Origins supports reflection. It is not a psychological test, diagnosis or substitute for therapy.

The research traditions

Four lenses. Four different questions about relational life.

These traditions help define what Origins explores. They are not displayed inside the conversation and they do not become a score, type or attachment label.

Bowlby · Ainsworth

Attachment & closeness

How early connection may shape expectations around closeness, reassurance, dependence and distance.

Gottman

Conflict & repair

How conflict, withdrawal, escalation, repair and reconnection are experienced and learned.

Zuckerman + related personality research

Drive & exploration

How stability, achievement, novelty and exploration enter the life a person builds.

Bowen

Boundaries & differentiation

How people learn where their own needs end and another person’s begin.

What is MindMatch synthesis

The sources inform the framework. The system around them is product design.

Origins is not a published instrument.

MindMatch chose to bring these lenses into one adaptive exploration. That combination, its sequencing and the way it becomes a Mirror are MindMatch’s own synthesis. They have not been independently clinically or psychometrically validated.

One natural conversation

The person speaks or types freely rather than completing four visible tests.

Four broad areas

The system keeps track of what has and has not been sufficiently explored.

A substance gate

Readiness depends on what the conversation contains, not a fixed number of questions.

An evolving Mirror

Versions can be stored and compared as the conversation deepens.

How the adaptive mechanism works

A structure around the conversation.

A general language model helps conduct and write the conversation. Origins adds the product logic that decides what still needs understanding and whether there is enough material for a Mirror.

  1. 01
    Your answer

    Your words, spoken or typed.

  2. 02
    Structured understanding

A separate step identifies what the answer revealed.

  3. 03
    What is understood?

Four broad relational areas are tracked.

  4. 04
    What is missing?

    Unexplored material remains visible.

  5. 05
    Targeted question

The next question follows a real gap.

  6. 06
    Substance gate

    No fixed question count.

  7. 07
    Evolving Mirror

Versions deepen and can be compared.

Separate processing step. After each answer, structured information is extracted separately from the conversational reply.
Coverage before completion. The full Mirror is not offered while an entire relational area remains unexplored.
Empty is better than invented. A Mirror section can remain unwritten when the person has not supplied enough material.
Safeguards

Your words are the evidence.

The system is designed to be useful without becoming more certain than the person’s own account allows.

No inferred wounds

Circumstances are not turned into injuries the person never described.

No system-authored evidence

Only the person’s statements count as evidence for the Mirror.

No type or diagnosis

Origins does not assign a category, diagnosis or attachment label.

Crisis pause

If crisis language appears, the conversation pauses and support resources are shown.

Existing care comes first

If the person says they are working with a therapist or clinician, the 18-month action plan is removed.

Data control

Personal Origins data can be permanently deleted.

Limitations

What Origins does not claim.

The boundaries are part of the methodology, not fine print.

  • Origins does not establish that childhood caused a present-day pattern. It explores possible connections.
  • Origins does not predict whether a relationship will last or make accuracy claims about relationship outcomes.
  • Origins is not therapy, medical care or crisis support, and it does not replace professional judgment.
  • The research traditions named here do not validate the combined MindMatch system.
  • The readiness gate is a product decision, not a proven psychological threshold.
  • A personal Mirror is a reflective reading of one person’s account, not an assessment of someone who did not participate.
